Which THC Tincture Is Best For You?

Tinctures have been around for centuries, dating all the way back to ancient Egyptians and their creations of alcohol and herbal tinctures for medicinal purposes. While tinctures are nothing new, a THC tincture is a recently relevant topic in the cannabis community. With many states legalizing marijuana and making weed tinctures more available to consumers, there will naturally be more discussions surrounding one of the most potent methods for consuming weed. Whether you are already an avid user of cannabis tincture or are a newbie to this part of the cannabis world, you will find this article has many takeaways that can help out with your cannabis journey. Once you figure out what kind of THC tinctures you prefer, check out our best Delta THC section to see the goods and what our customers are raving about.  Let’s get started!

What is a cannabis tincture?

TInctures in general are a fusion of a solution of an active herb or compound combined with an alcohol-based solvent, so a weed tincture uses marijuana as the active herb and is typically mixed with an alcohol solvent or even oil-based solvent. Tinctures are extremely potent because the process of making it is essentially absorbing all of the good stuff in the cannabis plant, and when the process is finished it is then strained and bottled up for use.

Tinctures are usually always found in glass dropper bottles, and you might not even have known you have used tinctures before. Do you know the little dropper bottles of liquid that you find in a first aid kit? That is considered a tincture with a solution that helps to disinfect and treat wounds.

What are the street names for THC tinctures?

A THC tincture can have a multitude of nicknames and it might get confusing if you have never used tinctures much less know all of the terms for a weed tincture. Just in case you are in a group or at the dispensary and unaware of when someone is using a street name for THC tinctures, here is a quick list of street names for a THC tincture:

  • Tink/Tinks. This street name is pretty straightforward as it is just a shortened nickname for a weed tincture.
  • Green dragon. Also known as golden dragon tincture, this is just a general term amongst the cannabis community that refers to any kind of weed tincture.
  • Mayzack. No idea why this is a common street name for a cannabis tincture, but nonetheless if you hear this odd-sounding word it is not a weed strain but actually referring to a THC tincture.
  • Liquid THC/Liquid marijuana. This is pretty much the workaround term if you ever had to describe a cannabis tincture without actually saying the word tincture. Whilst the other terms are subjective and can be mistaken for another form of weed, liquid THC or liquid marijuana makes no mistake that it is talking about a THC tincture as it is the only form of liquid besides concentrates.

What does THC tincture help with?

Similar to consuming CBD tinctures, a THC tincture can provide a lot of benefits when taken at the right dose depending on the individual. Be aware that a cannabis tincture tends to be a lot more potent as compared to smoking and even taking edibles. A weed tincture can help reduce nausea, can aid in any joint or muscle pain by calming the muscles and nerves, and helps to improve sleep for the insomniacs that need a jumpstart to catch some zzz’s.

A lot of medical patients that are undergoing chemotherapy or something similar to the process usually find that a THC tincture can seriously help in relieving pain and managing other uncomfortable symptoms and effects of their medical treatments. A cannabis tincture does not always need to be taken to get high and feel alive, and many medical patients prove that in choosing a weed tincture over pharmaceutical medication to help with pain and discomfort.

How to use or take cannabis tinctures?

While it might look very easy to use when it comes to taking a THC tincture, if you mess around too much and ingest more than you should, it will probably knock you out cold and provide the similar feeling of being extremely high off of edibles. The proper way to take a cannabis tincture is to start out by micro-dosing and move up from there as you figure out how your body reacts to it. There is no ideal dose as it depends on your tolerance levels, so starting out slowly will allow you to gauge how well your body reacts based on the amount ingested.

The proper way to take a THC tincture is to release the liquid underneath your tongue and hold it for at least 30 seconds. There is a lining of tissue in the mouth and under the tongue that will absorb the cannabis tincture and go directly into the bloodstream rather than to the stomach or liver.

How much tincture oil should I take?

One full dropper of a THC tincture is about 1mL and that can be a lot, so start out with a quarter of that and work your way up. Most users that want to stay functional will only take a few droplets out of the dropper but only you can know for yourself what is the right amount and that comes with user experience. Trial and error is the best way to know how a weed tincture can affect you, which is why it is highly recommended to start out in very low doses especially if you have a low tolerance for weed in general. Again, a THC tincture is highly potent no matter how high your tolerance is, so considering the effects it delivers you want to think about running a marathon, not a sprint.

How long does it take for a cannabis tincture to kick in?

If taken properly and held under the tongue to absorb fully, it usually takes anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes for a cannabis tincture to kick in. If you do not feel anything after 30 minutes, it is advised to not take another dose as you should probably wait at least another hour or so to see what kind of effects you feel over time. This is another reason why microdosing is best for taking any kind of THC tincture because the goal is to feel good, not feel like a zombie.

What is the strongest THC tincture?

What is the strongest THC tincture?

There are many kinds of THC tinctures available and while there are different dosages depending on the strength you are looking for, it really depends on how much you actually take for it to be considered the strongest THC tincture. Try not to focus on the strongest type of cannabis tincture but more so the best brand for you that has the type of ingredients that agree with your body to make it feel good. Sometimes, there are THC tinctures out there that just do not sit well with an individual but that does not mean you should give up your weed tincture journey. Keep trying out different types of THC tinctures to fully gauge which one you prefer over any other.

What is the difference between THC oil and THC tincture?

Remember when we were talking about tinctures from way back when? Tinctures require the infusion of alcohol whereas oils are infused with oil-based ingredients. THC oil and a THC tincture pretty much deliver the same results and are administered the same as well, so it just comes down to preference and budget. THC oil is a nice alternative for those that do not want to ingest alcohol-based products and it is widely available too.

What is the difference between THC tinctures and edibles?

Edibles and a weed tincture can have the same heavy effect, but edibles go straight to your stomach before entering the bloodstream. A cannabis tincture, on the other hand, when taken properly and held under the tongue for 30 seconds to absorb will go directly to the bloodstream and have a faster effect. If taking a weed tincture in small doses, the high will typically last anywhere between two to four hours, whereas an edible high can last for as long as 12 hours depending on how much food is in your stomach, level of tolerance, etc.

How does a tincture compare to CBD oil?

Again, tinctures typically refer to an alcohol-based mixture whereas oil is made with an oil-based mixture. When it comes to comparing a THC tincture and a CBD oil, of course, a THC tincture will be more potent as compared to a CBD oil since THC vs CBD has no comparison when it comes to levels of potency. If you are comparing CBD tinctures to CBD oil, they are pretty much the same just the way you would compare a THC tincture to a THC oil. If you feel that a cannabis tincture is a bit too much for you, trying out CBD oil instead might be a better alternative since there are no psychoactive effects. Also, if you ever experience too much of a high and want to come down from it, counteracting any weed tincture with a CBD tincture or CBD oil should help to sober you up.

What’s the difference between CBD vs THC tinctures?

The main difference is the obvious psychoactive effects that are present in a weed tincture and lack in a CBD tincture. CBD tinctures are an excellent option if you want to skip out on the heavy psychoactive effects that a THC tincture will induce. Because THC tinctures are so potent and have high levels of THC, there is no way around getting high when consuming this product. But if you still want to feel relaxed and mellow yourself out a bit without getting locked into the couch looking like a zombie, CBD tinctures are going to be your best friend. It is always a good idea to keep CBD tinctures on hand at all times to either counteract any high effects from THC or just to have them on hand when you need to calm your nerves but want to still feel completely functional.

What are cannabis tincture’s dangers?

What are cannabis tincture’s dangers?

Everyone knows (or should know by now) that it is impossible to overdose on marijuana, however that does not mean that there are individuals who experience very uncomfortable effects from using cannabis tinctures. While most would not categorize a weed tincture as dangerous, depending on the individual ingesting the THC tincture and their tolerance levels - the user experience will vary from person to person and even session to session. Just because you could handle a full dropper of a THC tincture yesterday, does not mean that the same amount can’t put you on your butt the day after.

Some users experience an increased heart rate which can lead to heightened anxiety and can induce panic attacks if the symptoms become overwhelming. The most important thing to note if you ever experience this is to know that you will be okay and the main thing is to focus on your breathing and feeling calm. While it can be extremely uncomfortable in the moment, a cannabis tincture will definitely humble you real quick just like an edible does. Again, microdosing a cannabis tincture and putting yourself on a schedule to regulate yourself and your usage will help to avoid overconsumption and consuming too much in one sitting.

Can you buy THC tinctures?

Depending on the state you are expecting a delivery to or whether you have access to a local dispensary is how you can determine whether you can buy THC tinctures online or in person. We carry different types of THC tinctures that also include other cannabinoids for additional benefits. Try The Helping Friendly Dispensary Grade Tincture which is a CBD-dominant tincture with other cannabinoids like CBN, CBD, and CBC. With 2000mg strength in a 30 mL bottle, this is an excellent addition to your cannabis collection to really diversify your options.

Why are so many store-bought tinctures made with MCT oil?

MCT, or medium-chain triglycerides, are actually an excellent carrier oil as it is a type of fat that is found in coconut and palm oil. MCT oil is said to offer a ton of benefits, but it also does a better job at distributing cannabis tincture than other types of oils. MCT oil is usually a popular choice over alcohol-based tinctures as well and is an excellent solution when trying your hand in making your own THC tincture recipe.

How to make cannabis tinctures? Step-by-step guide

Are you looking to make your own THC tincture recipe and needing a little guidance? We got you covered with a quick THC tincture recipe that anyone can follow easily.

THC tincture recipe ingredients

You will need the following:

  • At least an eighth to a half ounce of cannabis
  • Three to twelve fluid ounces of a carrier oil, like MCT oil or coconut oil
  • Glass jars
  • Cheesecloth or coffee filters
  • Glass bottle with dropper cap
  • Baking tray and parchment paper (for baking)

1. Activate your buds by decarboxylation

Making your own THC tincture recipe requires no heat, so in order to activate the psychoactive compounds found in cannabis you will need to decarboxylate your buds. To easily do this at home, grab a baking tray and parchment paper then add your grounded cannabis like you would when baking granola. Bake at around 230 degree Fahrenheit for about 30 to 45 minutes - you do not want to overheat your cannabis nor do you want to bake it for too long so keep an eye on it. Decarboxylating your cannabis will create the potency found in store-bought THC tinctures, and if you do not do this step you can still create a THC tincture but it will not have any active psychoactive compounds and will be about as potent as CBD.

2. Add ingredients to glass jar

When pouring the carrier oil and adding the cannabis into your glass jar, the average ratio is 3.5 grams of weed to 3 fluid ounces of the carrier oil. This is a great starting base, and feel free to increase your ratios by decreasing the carrier oil and increasing the amount of cannabis for a more potent effect. As long as the cannabis is fully submerged into the carrier oil you should have a good batch going for you. Stir the mixture well before closing it with its cap.

3. Store tincture for 4 weeks

Now the waiting game begins, so place your glass jar in a cool and dry area for four weeks and shake the jar about once a day. By doing this, you are allowing the mixture to not stay stagnant and it will continue to infuse together a lot more throughout the storage process. The longer you do this step, the more potent your mixture will become.

4. Strain the mixture

Using a cheesecloth or coffee filters, strain the glass jar mixture so that all grounded cannabis is removed from the oil. What you have left is the tincture liquid that is ready to be added to a glass bottle with a dropper cap!
