There’s nothing better than a decadent brownie right out of the oven, except for when it’s a weed brownie of course! Edibles are simple to create at home and can make the holidays extra special. You can prepare a huge batch of weed brownies ahead of time to give out as a thoughtful homemade gift or bring them to this year’s Christmas party for a bit of fun. This recipe calls for cannabutter (cannabis-infused butter), which needs to be prepared beforehand, but the extra effort will be well worth it. If edibles aren’t your style, just swap out the cannabutter for normal butter and you’ll have a sweet snack for when the munchies hit. These are the gooiest brownies around and they come with a special holiday twist—peppermint cream cheese frosting topped with crushed candy canes!
Holiday Weed Brownie Recipe
Weed brownies:
1/2 cup softened cannabutter (see recipe below)
1/2 cup Dutch-process unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup (8 ounces) chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 extra-large eggs
3/4 cup flour
Peppermint frosting:
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons (⅛ cup) softened cannabutter
2 ounces cream cheese
1 tablespoon milk
1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
Crushed candy canes for topping
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 325 °F.
- In a large bowl mix together the softened cannabutter, and cocoa powder. Then combine the sugar, chocolate chips, and vanilla. Incorporate each egg one at a time. Add the flour without over mixing.
- Transfer to greased baking pan and bake on center rack for 20 minutes. Cool completely before cutting and adding frosting.
- For frosting: Beat cannabutter and cream cheese until fluffy. Incorporate the milk. Then slowly add powdered sugar while mixing. When fully incorporated, add the peppermint extract. After frosting the cooled brownies, top with crushed candy canes.
Cannabutter Recipe
One of the easiest ways to make homemade edibles from scratch is to first whip up a batch of cannabutter. Cannabutter is cannabis infused butter which can then be used just like normal butter. Spread it on toast, drizzle it over pasta, or use it in baking recipes like this delicious holiday weed brownie. This recipe is for a normal to mild concentration so you can also enjoy the dessert itself. Feel free to double or even triple the amount of weed if you desire a very potent brownie. The butter can be made in large batches and saved in the fridge or freezer.
Cannabutter:
1 ounce ground cannabis flower
2 cups (1 lb) salted butter
Directions:
- Melt salted butter in a saucepan on low heat. Add cannabis and simmer for 45 minutes while stirring continuously. Never leave the cannabutter unattended or it can burn!
- The butter should have a green tinge. Remove from heat and strain into a glass jar.
Edibles vs Smoking
If you only smoke and have never tried edibles before, you may not know that the effects are very different from one another. Many cannabis enthusiasts describe the effects of edibles as a body high and smoking as more of a head high. Total body relaxation and “couch lock” are typical feelings associated with body highs.
