Does CBD Get You High?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of hundreds of compounds found in the cannabis plant and each compound has a different rhyme or reason for existing. Like tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is a compound that is part of the cannabis plant and known for its psychoactive effects. Some might even get confused between the two, but every compound found in the cannabis plant works in different ways. So does CBD get you high the way THC does? You would think since they derive from the same plant but it is much deeper than that. Find out all you need to know about CBD and if it gets you high like its popular counterpart, THC.

Does CBD do anything?

CBD contains a lot of health benefits, although compared to the effects THC delivers, it might come off as defective or like it doesn’t work as well. On the contrary, CBD is very effective and you should take dosing seriously! Just because CBD does not have a psychoactive effect to produce that “high” feeling, it does not mean that CBD does nothing for the body.

Can you get high from CBD?

Just because various compounds derive from the same cannabis plant, a lot of people think that every compound will produce a long lasting high effect. This is absolutely not true! Again, to be clear, every compound that comes from a cannabis plant serves a different reason for existing and also gives various reactions. Technically, cannabis plants contain marijuana, but CBD can actually derive from a hemp plant too which does not contain any THC compounds.

Hemp has no psychoactive effects, which is why many suggest consuming CBD oil that comes directly from hemp plants to avoid having any marijuana particles mixed in. By law, any CBD that derives from a marijuana plant must have a label stating there is up to 0.3% THC in every bottle. Why? Because technically there could be trace amounts of THC, however not enough to make you high in the slightest so don’t try it.

How does CBD make you feel?

Although the psychoactive effect to make you “high” is not present in CBD, many still find relief and have positive reactions when consuming CBD regardless. Without the high effect, CBD will still calm you down and provide a sense of peace through both the mind and body. Whether you are taking CBD oil, topical creams or smoking CBD flower, most users find that they feel a sense of relaxation afterwards. A lot of users take CBD to combat any discomfort they continuously experience because CBD is less potent than other approaches like consuming THC or alcohol to numb any pain.

CBD for anxiety and depression

One of the main reasons someone would take CBD is to ease anxiety and help with depression, thanks to CBD’s ability to alter the brain’s receptors that control serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that regulates a person’s mood, so when CBD alters serotonin levels it often enhances one’s social behaviors and how they feel. While CBD won’t get you high, youwill feel a sense of relief that could be equivalent to feeling high or euphoric.

CBD for pain

Many take CBD to relieve chronic pain similarly to how it helps the body deal with anxiety. CBD alters endocannabinoid receptor activity which is located in your nervous system and controls how you receive feeling, both good and bad. This is why CBD helps with inflammation, by interacting with neurotransmitters and sending a different message to your nervous system. This is probably better than feeling high because taking CBD consistently could potentially improve symptoms over time.

CBD for neurological disorders

CBD actually became pretty popular after the story Charlotte’s Web CBD started circulating about its positive benefits and success with epilepsy patients. CBD has been highly successful with those living with epilepsy and has decreased the amount of seizures a person normally experiences in a day. What makes CBD so popular among epileptics is that it is a much better holistic approach as opposed to taking pharmaceuticals and dealing with heavy side effects from it.

Side effects of CBD

There are some side effects of CBD that should be mentioned, however it is no worse than what you’d experience from eating a bad fish sandwich. Some side effects you might feel if you consume too much CBD are:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Sore stomach
  • Fatigue

Why does CBD make me feel high?

While CBD does not contain a psychoactive ingredient the way THC does, it can help you feel relaxed which can compare to feeling intoxicated. However, CBD is more mild than most compounds of the cannabis plant which is why CBD is so popular for relaxation. Sans the high, CBD will still help you unwind and feel good the way an intoxicating high makes you feel. Grab some CBD oil online to see what all the hype is about!
