Delta 8

One of the most common hemp cannabinoids is Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol, referred to as Delta 8. It’s found in trace amounts naturally, so to produce Delta 8 at the commercial level, brands use CBD and chemically convert it to the Delta THC of preference. Delta 8 flower is said to have indica-like effects that are relaxing and sedating. Delta 8 is more potent than Delta 10, but roughly 40% less potent than Delta 9 (normal THC).

HHC

Hexahydrocannabinol, or HHC, is one of the newer minor cannabinoids to make an appearance in the 420 community. Also derived from legal hemp, CBD is converted to HHC by adding an extra hydrogen to THC, making the THC compound more stable than Delta 9. HHC flower is believed to be more potent than Delta 8, but still less potent than Delta 9.

THC-A

Delta 9, the THC you know and love, starts out as THC-A, which is its acid version. Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid is non-psychoactive and will not get you high until it is decarboxylated. That means THC-A flower requires heating to activate via lighting a bong bowl, joint, or blunt, or by baking it in the oven to create THC-A edibles. Once decarbed, THC-A becomes “regular” THC and has potency that is similar to your average dry herb.

Choosing a flower strain

Of course you know about indica, sativa, and hybrid strains when it comes to normal dry herb, but when talking about Delta 8 flower and other minor cannabinoids, it can get complicated. This is because CBD hemp flower on its own is non-psychoactive. It is soaked in Delta 8 isolate or distillate to create a euphoric effect and give the hemp flower potency. This means the hemp flower strain you choose doesn’t matter as much as it does in terms of producing different effects like it does when picking out a normal dry herb strain. The cannabis strain comes into play because it still offers unique terpene profiles, flavors, and scents. Read up on potency

Like we mentioned earlier, legal THC flower has different potency levels than your regular dry herb. In order from weakest to strongest you have: Delta 10, Delta 8, HHC, THC-A, Delta 9 (normal bud). However, potency isn’t everything. Remember that different minor cannabinoids have different effects. Some are more sativa-like and others have more indica heavy effects. It’s also important to note that legal THC compounds may affect you differently than typical THC, so always start out slowly, even if you’re a seasoned toker of regular herb.
